While some people are unaware of what the heck gluten is, others must pay attention to whether or not it is present in their food in order to avoid becoming sick. Gluten is a group of proteins present in cereal grains like wheat, rye, oats and barley that holds some foods together – helping them maintain their shape. When it comes to bread, it’s the element that’s responsible for the elastic texture of the dough. While you would expect to find gluten in most breads, you might be surprised to find it in food items like gravy, pastas, soups, salad dressings, beer, cereals and more. More and more people are discovering that they have a gluten sensitivity – making it difficult for them to digest foods in which gluten is present. Some find that they have Celiac Disease – a serious autoimmune disease where the ingestion of gluten leads to damage in the small intestine, estimated to affect 1 in 100 people all around the world. As the awareness of gluten spreads, so does the movement to provide gluten-free options in the restaurant industry. Fortunately for Woody’s Bar-B-Q fans, many of the central items on our menu are naturally gluten free – making our restaurants a great option for gluten-sensitive patrons who want to enjoy lunch or dinner out. Our gluten-free menu features dozens of items, but we’ve earmarked a handful of our most popular items…
