Sharing is caring!

After opening in 2014, Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Cocoa quickly became a fan-favorite among locals. Unfortunately, after changing ownership and closing its doors during the pandemic, it lost touch with its immediate loyal following. Now, with a stunningly refreshed interior, fabulous staff at the ready, menu packed with signature dishes and a seasoned industry veteran at the helm, the Brevard County eatery is well on its way to making a comeback as word spreads that it’s reopened and under new ownership!

His Reputation Precedes Him

Having spent all of his working life in the restaurant business with nearly two decades at Quincy’s Family Steakhouse and a series of successfully stints with Firehouse Subs, Times Grill, Peterbrooke Chocolatier and Bubba Burger Grill, Jack Dunsmoor is now proud to be a multi-unit franchisee for Woody’s Bar-B-Q. He has become proficient at buying successful locations and expanding their fanbase – as evidenced by Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Jacksonville at Powers Avenue – which he purchased in 2013 and Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Macclenny – which he purchased in 2017. In 2021, his Jacksonville location boasted the Highest Year Over Year Sales Increase and his Macclenny location was honored for having the Highest Sales in the Franchise System. Fueled by a love of great BBQ and a desire to give the customers he serves an excellent dining experience, Jack is well on his way to doing the same at Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Cocoa.

A BBQ Joint with All the Bells and Whistles

Located at 4885 US HWY 1, the free-standing full-service Woody’s Bar-B-Q draws customers from both St. Johns and Cocoa, as well as all over Brevard County. In addition to a beautifully built dining room that accommodates up to 156 guests, this location features a full bar, covered outdoor patio seating and a drive-thru for to go orders. The patio is particularly popular with patrons who bring their pooches to dinner, to which the Woody’s crew will promptly deliver a bowl of cold water. The restaurant’s interior also features a game room for pint-sized patrons – the kids can enjoy playing games while the grown-ups catch up on the day’s events over a cocktail or two before and after dinner arrives. But what really sets Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Cocoa apart is the view. Its location offers a terrific vantage point for rocket launches out of nearby Cape Canaveral.

To ramp up the fun factor, Jack has added Kids Eat Free Mondays and Game Night Wednesdays to the weekly calendar. On Kids Eat Free Mondays, kids 10 and under get their choice of a free meal from the Kids Menu when an accompanying adult orders a dinner or entrée salad from the regular menu. Hosted from 6-8 p.m., Game Night Wednesdays feature a rotation of trivia, bingo, cards and more from one week to the next. Jack also plans to take a cue from his Macclenny location and introduce a family-friendly Trunk or Treat night at Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Cocoa. When the event debuted to the Macclenny crowd, it drew a crowd of about 100 kids. Last year, the parking lot was packed with over 600 kids. Community involvement is especially important to Jack, as evidenced by Woody’s sponsorship of the Cocoa High School football team (TIGER PRIDE!)

Good Food and Good Friends – A Match Made in Heaven

Like all Woody’s Bar-B-Q locations, Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Cocoa showcases a menu of classic Southern BBQ and comfort food sides that have stood the test of time for over 40 years. Favorite dishes among the Brevard County crowd are Woody’s Signature Baby Back Ribs, Smokin’ Spare Ribs, Carolina Pulled Pork, Slow-Smoked Turkey Breast and Texas Beef Brisket. Jack notes that they move an incredible number of Big Black Angus Bacon Cheddar Burgers from one week to the next, and the undeniable cocktail contender is the classic Margarita.

But the best food, fun events and a great atmosphere don’t mean a thing if your staff isn’t on par. Fortunately, one of the areas where Jack really shines in all three of his Woody’s locations is his ability to build an excellent, tight-knit crew. He is particularly proud of the fantastic team at Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Cocoa, led by General Manager and Mims neighbor, Joshua Mitchell. The rest of the team features a cross-section of industry veterans and fresh-faced newcomers – all eager to go above and beyond to make sure their guests are happy. The front of the house embraces the concept of “service with a smile,” while the kitchen staff works beautifully as a team – more like a brotherhood – taking pride in the taste and appearance of every plate that leaves the back of the house. The close-knit feel of the staff is no accident, Joshua’s brother and sister-in-law work alongside him – everyone else is virtually “adopted” into the family.

Jack, Joshua and the rest of the team invite you to experience Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Cocoa firsthand. It is open for business daily from 11 am to 9 pm. In addition to dine-in and take-out via its drive-thru, the restaurant also offers delivery through Froogle. For large gatherings that include anything from a family reunion to a company picnic, Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Cocoa is proud to offer catering.
