Sharing is caring!

With a hint of Fall in the air throughout much of the nation, it calls to mind memories of tailgate parties, fall festivals and that time-honored tradition of the backyard barbecue. But between issuing the invitations, making your outdoor living spaces look picture perfect, shopping for all of the ingredients, cooking some of your dishes inside, grilling the main course outside and cleaning up afterwards – that doesn’t leave you much time to actually enjoy your meal… let alone your guests. With a little pre-planning – and a little help from your friends at Woody’s BBQ – you could host a fret-free backyard barbecue that will make you the envy of the neighborhood!

  1. Set a Date:Keep an eye on the forecast and select a day that will not only work for everyone on your desired guest list, but is less likely to require a Plan B due to a popup lightning storm. Also choose a time of day that fits with your vision – a sumptuous lunch gathering or a dinner under the stars.
  2. Take Your Pick of a Theme:Once you have a theme in mind, the rest of the pieces should fall into place! You could host a sports-centric affair that features your own games out on the lawn for the seventh inning stretch or halftime. You could host a luau-themed shindig complete with pool party, leis, tacky Hawaiian shirt contest and beachy music in the air. You could host a slightly sophisticated garden party with floral arrangements and white tablecloths. You could host a Halloween-themed party with costumes, impromptu haunted house in the garage, hayrides around the neighborhood and scary movies projected on a sheet in the backyard. Or you could opt for the traditional backyard barbecue with red and white checkered table cloths, ice cold beer in the cooler and white lights strung from the trees. With enough lead-time, you can even send themed print or digital invitations to your guest list to add to the excitement factor.
  3. Do it up Right with your Décor: Set the mood before they ever take their first bite with imaginative décor to fit your theme. Go all out or keep it simple, depending on your budget and personality. Look to resources such as Pinterest, Southern Living Magazine, Real Simple Magazineand more for a little imaginative inspiration.
  4. Decide on Your Menu:You could opt to make a handful of appetizers to wet their appetites or ask for your guests to bring items that will enhance your menu, such as chips, drinks and desserts. For a truly fret-free affair, look to your friends at Woody’s BBQ to supply the main course(s) and sides.
